Clyde- Lewis Carroll Mease, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Mission Hospital – St. Josephs Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Weldon and Ethel Rogers Mease. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Eugene P. Hawkins. Carroll was a United States Army veteran having served in Germany. Carroll was a real estate broker with Services Galore for 10 years and was later employed as a real estate broker and appraiser with MainStreet Realty and retired after 23 years of service. He was a member of Clyde Wesleyan Church since 1968 and served his church in many capacities. Currently, he was serving as Sunday school superintendent and church trustee. Carroll was also a member of Clyde Lions Club. He was a member of Sonoma Lodge #472 AF&AM and a 32nd degree mason. Carroll was first appointed to the Clyde Board of Alderman in 1982 and has continually been elected for 32 years and was currently serving as Mayor Pro Tempore. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Hawkins Mease, of Clyde; one sister, Kathy Mease of Waynesville; one brother, Ronnie Mease and his wife, Annis, of Cadyville, New York; a special mother-in-law, Ruth Fowler Hawkins; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Henderson and her husband, Estol, and Dinah Smith both of Clyde; two nieces, Krista Leatherman and Kim Hoffman; one nephew, Michael Todd Smith; three great-nieces, Kirstin Setzer, Makenzie Smith, and "My little Miracle", Blake Carter; three great nephews, Christopher Setzer, Tyler Smith, and Brandon Hemingway; a great-great nephew, Bentley; and a great-great niece, Makayla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Clyde Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Eddie Clayton and the Reverend Jerry Lumston officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Town of Clyde Board of Alderman members, town officials and employees, and members of the Clyde Lions Club.
