Lewis Messer

February 20, 1923 — May 24, 2006

Lewis Hardin "Red" Messer, age 83, of 6 Starnes Cove Drive, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Aston Park Health Care Center. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Charlie and Sara Lee Messer. He retired from Coca-Cola with 38 years of service in 1985 as a salesman. Mr. Messer was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church and a member of the North Carolina Baptist Association Lay Witness Foundation. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Catherine Worley Messer, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Moody and husband, Philip, of Concord and Doris Messer Hardin of Asheville; a sister, Wilsie Shipman; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Special thanks to Aston Park for their loving care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 at Starnes Cove Baptist Church with the Reverend Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
