Candler-Lewis Paul Pressley-94 of 120 Hillcrest Drive died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Calvin and Arizona Welch Pressley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hipps Pressley who died in 1974, a son-Robert Lewis Presley who died in 1997, two sisters, Pearl Devlin and Elsie Rector and three brothers, Way, Clarence and Glenn Pressley.
He had been employed by Champion International and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday school superintendent and men's Sunday school teacher, he had served as president of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Men's group, was a certified United Methodist lay speaker and was chair person for the church cemetery for over 55 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Moody and her husband, Ralph and Martha Hinson and her husband, Ted both of Candler, one son, Ray Pressley and his wife, Mary Jo of Candler and ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A special thanks to his special caregivers, Doris Arnold and Kim Price and his Physical Therapist, Suellen Mosley.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Phillip Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:30 until 8:30 at Wells Funeral Home in Canton where his body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
