Lillian Escaravage

Waynesville, Lillian Beatrice O'Brien Escaravage, age 78, of Vantage Pointe Homes, passed away, Saturday, December 25, 2010 at her residence. She was a native of New York City, NY and was the daughter of the late John and Jessie Schmidt O'Brien. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Paul "Hank" Escaravage who died 11/22/1989; two sisters, Dorothy Saboda and Evelyn Bourne, one brother, George O'Brien and one grandson, Todd Henry John Escaravage. Mrs. Escaravage lived most of her life in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area and for most of the past 25 years, she resided in her beloved mountains of Western North Carolina. While in New Jersey, she was instrumental in starting a chapter of The Boys & Girls Club. She was a former hospital volunteer and small business owner. She and her late husband were former owners of NEO Corporation where she was affectionately known as "Mom NEO." She is survived by five sons, Henry Escaravage, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Prattville, AL; Steven Escaravage and his wife Barbara of Hewitt, NJ; George Escaravage and his wife Karla of Waynesville, NC; Keith Escaravage and his wife Kathy of Ocala, FL; Todd Escaravage of Maggie Valley, NC; three daughters, Susan Janos and her husband Joe of Statesville, NC; Michele Escaravage of Clyde, NC; Tracy Powers of Bozeman, MT; one brother, Walter Wardrop and his wife Irene of Valley Cottage, NY; one sister-in-law, Gertrude O'Brien of Black Mountain, NC; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
