Lillian Howard

Mary Lillian Rogers Howard, ninety three, who lived the majority of her life at 206 Howard Valley Road, left this world to join her savior January 15, 2015. Mary had been a resident of Aston Park Health Care Center, Inc. of Asheville, NC for the last three (3) years of her life. She was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late George W. Rogers, and Anner Kuykendall Rogers. She was two (2) years old when her mother died and subsequently George W. Rogers married Balsie Williams Revis. Mrs. Howard's dad and stepmother were married fifty years (50) before Balsie died on her fiftieth (50) wedding anniversary. Lillian, as most people called her, was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church for sixty three (63) years. She was a member of the choir and was always so happy to be part of her Sunday school class. Lillian and friends delivered meals for years and Lillian always made certain that each recipient of a meal got a little extra in the form of an apple or candy. She loved the children of the church and has left many memories for those individuals. She never worked outside of the home but a greater mom and housekeeper will never be found. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eulas M. (Dude) Howard who died August 17, 2000. She is also preceded in death by the following: sisters, Glynna Rogers Carter, Fay Rogers Griffin, and Ruby Rogers Pressley; half-brothers, Nolan Rogers, Ward Rogers, Arvell Rogers, and Norman Rogers, who passed away on January 16, 2015; stepbrothers, Alvoid Revis, Cecil Revis, Grady Revis, T.L. Revis, and Rex Revis; and stepsister, Mary Jane Revis Williams. Surviving are her children, Charles M. (Chuck) Howard of Vanleer, Tennessee and his wife Sue; Doris J. Pless and her husband Charles of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jerry D. Howard and his wife Diana of Candler, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with the Reverends Ned Pressley and James Parham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers are Danny Howard, Jeffrey Pless, Kenneth Pless, Michael Howard, Wade Pressley, and Leroy Murray. Honorary pallbearers are Lester Holcombe and David Young. Our mother loved both her church and flowers. Either a contribution made to Spring Hill Baptist Church or flowers would be appreciated by both mom and her family. The family would like to thank all the people of the community who loved our mother and did so many things for her. A special thanks to David and Leila Young who continuously made sure mom was ok. The same thanks to Leroy and Lila Jo Murray. In addition many, many thanks to Aston Park Health Care Center, Inc, in Asheville, NC for the service they provided for our mother. The nursing staff, many of the CNA's, and the activities staff truly loved mom and reflected such in the care and kindness shown to her. Our mother will be missed but as mom's oldest son has said, when mom leaves this world he is not concerned as to where she is going. She will be with her Lord and will be completely healed and singing with the angels. She is now there.
