Lillian Mcclure

April 9, 1936 — November 9, 2013

Lillian Strickland McClure, age 77, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Lacy Packett Strickland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas McClure, who died in 2005; two sisters, Pearlie and Ida; and two brothers, Varnell and Oliver Strickland. She was employed with WNC Paving as a housekeeper for 40 years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Lillian enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, cooking, growing flowers, and eating M&M'S. She is survived by two sons, Gary McClure and his wife, Karen, of Waynesville and Larry McClure and his fiancé, Lisa, of Canton; a sister, Mildred Keener of Waynesville; a granddaughter, Melanie Hymer;and a grandson, Ryan McClure. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Randy Keener, Richard and Caleb McClure, David Holt, Mike Burris, Michael Dills, and Terry Troutman. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
