"Loving Mother and Grandmother" Candler – Lillie Cordelia Jones Thompson, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at her residence three days before her 95th birthday. She was a native of Jackson County, and had resided in Haywood County most of her life. Lillie was the daughter of the late Coleman Virgil and Flora Rogers Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James Thompson, Sr.; four sisters, Delcie Adamson, Rixie Littrell, Maggie Green and Ila Mills and two brothers, Robert and Roy Jones. Lillie enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, traveling with family and family get-togethers. She was the oldest member since 1936 of Canton Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, JoNell Styles and her husband, John, of Candler, Mardine Judy Nicholas and her husband, Allan, of Wake Forest, NC, and Keva Messer and her husband, Benny, of Waynesville; a son, Harold James "Jay" Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Hazel, of Candler; seven grandchildren, Teresa Gilliam, Deborah Kane, Robin Wilkerson, Greg Nicholas, Eric Nicholas, Brentley Messer and Amy Morgan; and four great-grandchildren, Ryon Reynolds, Collin Gilliam, James DeLane "J.D." Morgan and Alex Jordan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene Gilliam and Reverend Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
