Linda Burris

Hazelwood, Linda Gail Barker Burris, age 63, of Amanda Road, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of Alverta Presnell of Waynesville and is preceded in death by one brother, Roger Barker. For the past 16 years, she was employed at Evergreen Packaging's Waynesville Plant on the No. 1 Paper Mill and was of the Baptist faith. Linda was known for being very compassionate and kind and was full of love. Her passion in life was her family and she will be remembered forever as an amazing wife and as a wonderful mother and grandmother. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 32 years, Lewis Burris; a daughter, Candace Sawyer and her companion, Tony Hurst; son, Leslie Sawyer, of Waynesville; sister, Mary Ruth Barker of Black Mountain; a brother-in-law, Tommy Burris and his wife, Susie, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Amaya Sawyers, Michelle Taylor, Kristen Messer, and Joshua Gaddis; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Messer; and her special niece, Hollie Hughes and her husband, Craig; great nieces, Hanna, Hope, and Haley; her mother-in-law, Helen Burris, of Waynesville; and her best friend in the whole wide world, Cheryl Best and her mother, Pat Best. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Entombment will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
