Linda Mcdowell

Asheville – Linda Margaret McDowell, 70, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her residence.

Linda was a native of Washington, DC and was a daughter of the late Jeter Elmer McDowell, Jr. and Claudia Mallard McDowell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James E. “Corky” McDowell.  Linda was a 1970 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School where she lettered in basketball and was all county and all conference in both her junior and senior years.  She was also a graduate of Western Carolina University in 1975 where she was a member with the Lady Catamounts basketball team.  Linda was inducted into Clyde A. Erwin Schools Sports Hall of Fame in the class of 2019 and was a former employee of Sonopress, LLC of Weaverville.

She is survived by one brother, Gary C. McDowell (Carol) of Asheville; a niece, Kelsey Prewitt (Matt); a sister-in-law, Kay Pritchard; and several aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ronnie Owen officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
