Linda Smathers Robinson, a cherished mother, devoted friend, and beloved member of her community, passed away on January 11, 2025, at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, NC. Born on March 13, 1938, in Haywood County, North Carolina, Linda's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to others, compassion, and a vibrant personality that touched the hearts of many.
Linda devoted her professional life to serving as a lab technologist at Hazelwood Family Practice, where she contributed her skills and care to improve the lives of those around her. Beyond her career, she was a steadfast supporter of her community, embodying the spirit of giving and loyalty. A faithful member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church, Linda played an active role on both the Hospitality and Worship Committees. Additionally, she helped organize community events like the Pancake Breakfast at Rockwood United Methodist Church, which brought people together through fellowship and food. Linda had also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. Her memberships in groups such as the Red Hat Society allowed her to embrace life joyfully while forming lasting friendships.
Linda was known for her warmth and kindness, a wonderful mother and friend who would always lend an ear or a helping hand. Passionate about animals, especially dogs and cats, she often found joy in their company. She found peace in nature, frequently going on walks and immersing herself in the pages of a good book. Those who were brave enough to ask her opinion will remember how she delivered them with sincerity and determination, making her conversations memorable and engaging.
Linda is survived by her loving daughter, Stephanie Ann Willis of Clyde, and her significant other, Darrin Davis; her brother, Lyndon Smathers of Clyde; her nephew, Kevin Smathers (Amy) of Raleigh; her niece, Kristen Smathers of Fletcher; her special nephew, Charlie Rhodarmer; and her lifelong friend, Estelena Allen. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lyndon M. Smathers and Artie Rhodarmer Smathers; her late husband, Mark Willis (1975); as well as her brother, Robert Leon Smathers.
A visitation in honor of Linda will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Clyde Central United Methodist Church, located at 410 Charles St, Clyde, NC 28721. Pastor Linda-Arlene Hoxit and Reverend Keys Pendleton will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Clyde United Methodist Church or to Haywood County Meals on Wheels.
Linda leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering support for her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The care of Ms. Robinson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
