Lindsey Joseph Harrell, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully went Home to be with The Lord at the age of 86 on October 15, 2024, in Hudson, North Carolina, under the compassionate care of Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born on February 15, 1938, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, Lindsey lived a life full of purpose, dedication, and love for his family.
A proud graduate of Cecil's Business College, Lindsey devoted over 41 years to his career at Ball Glass and Container, where his unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, working as a mechanic on the iconic B-52 Bombers, an experience that shaped his practical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Known for his exceptional talent as a woodworker, Lindsey found joy in creating beautiful pieces that reflected his craftsmanship. He was a passionate outdoorsman, relishing every moment spent hunting and fishing. His love for music was evident in his proficiency with the guitar, and he proudly supported the North Carolina Tarheels.
Lindsey was an extraordinary father, imparting valuable lessons to his family. He cherished teaching his wife Joan to chop wood and go fishing, and passing on skills to his children such as maintaining their cars. His kindness was a hallmark of his personality; he would never turn anyone away, always inviting others to join him, regardless of how busy he was. Mr. Harrell was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in Morganton.
Lindsey is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joan Harrell; his daughter Sebrenia Arrowood of Asheville; his sons Gary Harrell of Morganton and Michael Bailey (Heather); three beloved grandchildren, Lindsey Stephenson (Marcus), Adam Arrowood (Amanda), and Ian Bailey; and six great-grandchildren, Jayvin, Jayden, Carolina, Sadie, Emersyn, and Braden. He is also survived by three sisters, Gail McIntyre (Rev. Don McIntyre) of Forest City, Faye Peeler of Asheville, and Linda Wheelon of Maryville, TN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind a special friend from the US Air Force, Robert Merrill.
A graveside service to honor Lindsey's life and legacy will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, North Carolina.
Lindsey Joseph Harrell, Jr. will be dearly missed and remembered for his selflessness, unwavering support of his family, and his ability to fix anything and everything. He lived life to its fullest, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
