Lloyd Bridges

Asheville, Lloyd "Bud" Bridges, age 81, of Tunnel Road, passed away on Saturday, March 01, 2014 at his residence. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Richmond and Nannie Raby Bridges, and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Bridges and Ruth Wood; one brother, Carl Bridges; and a stepson, Brock Greene. He was a 10-year US Marine Corps veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. Lloyd worked as a building contractor and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting large game, trained and showed horses, and was a master breeder and exhibitor of chickens. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sandra Sue Jenkins Bridges; two sisters, Mildred Burnette of Canton and Dorothy Galloway of Waynesville; a stepson, Harold Greene, Jr. and his wife, Brigette, and granddaughter, Tabitha Greene, all of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Thomas Memorial Cemetery in Whittier with military graveside rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Greene, Jr., Charles Chambers, T. J. Messer, Sam Edwards, Justin Queen, Brandon Mendez, and Wesley Edwards. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
