Lloyd Penland

Lloyd Cecil Penland, age 73, of 5 Apple Lane, died Friday, March 9, 2007, at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital. He was a native of Buncombe County and the son of the late Cashius and Kathleen Epley Penland. He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Moore; and two brothers, Horace and Maurice Penland. Lloyd retired from A&P, where he served as the Produce Manager for 27 years, and from Western Life Insurance Company, with 17 years of service. He also worked at Johnnys Mobile Service and Pardee Hospital during his retirement. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church. He was well loved and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Lloyd was an avid sports enthusiast. He was involved in many local activities including softball leagues, golf, and clogging and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Canton Lodge and the Candler Lion's Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie Penland; three daughters, Deborah Tomlinson, of Asheville, Jennifer Hensley and her husband, Mark, of Candler, Amy Judd and her husband, Jamie, of Enka; four sisters, Sue Kates and her husband, Reverend Alcy Kates, of Waynesville, Charlotte Johnson, of Merieta, OH, Grace Miller and her husband, Bob, of Belmont, WA, and Edith Luck of Indian Harbor, FL; four brothers, Walter Penland and his wife, Carolyn, of Horse Shoe, Wallace Penland and his wife, Nancy, of Howard, PA, Leonard Penland and his wife, Gayle, of Candler and Douglas Penland and his wife, Jane, of Candler; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007, at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Terry Wayne Penland, Dr. Ronnie Owen and Reverend Dennis Lanning officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to Mt.
