Bryson City formerly of Canton – Atha Heloise “Lois” Hipps Elliott, 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Bryson Senior Living.
A native of Haywood County, Lois was a daughter of the late Reverend Lovell and Nannie Mae Nations Hipps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Fitzgerald and three brothers, James, Paul, and Lenoir Hipps.
Lois lived in Canton for many years and retired from BASF at Enka. Before moving to Bryson City, she was a loyal church member of Canton Wesleyan Church, where she walked to most of the time and an avid book reader.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra McMahan and husband, Patrick, of Bryson City; one sister, Ardith Hipps Brown and husband, John, of Canton; two brothers, John Hipps and wife, Judy, and Lonnie Hipps and wife, Carolyn, all of Canton; two granddaughters, Erin McMahan Harris and Tara McMahan Brugh and husband, Brett; four great- grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend David Vos officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
