Franklin, Lois Rubena Messer Holland, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Franklin for many years. She was the daughter of the late Thad Bryson Messer, Sr. and Zora Conard Messer. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Sanders and one brother, Charles Messer. Lois loved her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a member of First Assembly of Franklin. She is survived by two sons, Darrell Holland of Bryson City and Kelly Holland of Raleigh; two sisters, Mary Ellen Gaddis and her husband, Bob, of Canton and Judy Messer Grant and her husband, Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant of Sylva; two brothers, Thad Messer and his wife, Edna, of Canton and Richard Messer and his wife, Judy, of Penrose; four grandchildren, Phillip Sanders, Josh Shelton, and Alexa and Elijah Holland; one great-granddaughter, Hope Sanders; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant officiating.
