Lomer Arrant

October 15, 1919 — March 21, 2011

Waynesville, Lomer Bass Arrant, age 91, formerly of Waynesville, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. A native of Clay County, he was the son of the late Thomas Bass and Ruby Scroggs Arrant. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired in 1981 from Champion Papers with 36 years service and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathryn Auberry Arrant; a son, Phillip Arrant, and his wife, Shirley of Fletcher, North Carolina; two daughters, Anita Kesler and her husband, John, of Irmo, South Carolina, Joy Bodnar of Kernersville, NC; three sisters, Alwayne Hunt of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Sue Arrant of Petaluma, California, and Peggy Stalcup of Gainesville, Georgia; and two grandchildren, David Arrant and Amanda Kesler. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion 47. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11am. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 5868 Pigeon Road, Canton, NC 28716.
