Lorean Catherine Blaylock, born on January 18, 1932, in Haywood County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement.
A cherished member of her community and a beloved matriarch, Lorean touched the lives of many through her unwavering dedication to family, loyalty to friends, and remarkable culinary talents. For many years, Lorean worked as a cook at Springdale Country Club, where she was more than just a provider of meals; she cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. Her kitchen was a sanctuary of warmth, filled with the delightful aromas of her cooking, which was always accompanied by her signature smile and joyful spirit. Lorean's creativity extended beyond the kitchen, revealing itself in her talent as a seamstress. Those who were fortunate enough to receive her handcrafted creations will fondly remember the care and dedication she infused into every stitch.
Lorean's greatest joy came from her family. She delighted in spending time with her daughter, Nancy Underwood, and her husband, Sam, of Waynesville; her son, Tim Blaylock, and his wife, Anita, also of Waynesville; and her son, Kenneth Blaylock, and his wife, Teresa, of Candler. She was the proud grandmother of five: Mackenzie Stack (Charlie), Mathew Underwood (Becca), Jonathan Blaylock (Rebekah), Laurel Rhyne (David), and Michael Blaylock (Caroline). A devoted great-grandmother, Lorean cherished her relationships with her 18 great-grandchildren: Marin, Sam, Asher, Madeline, Avery, Harper, Knox, Pearson, Campbell, Finley, Gracyn, Abraham, Ellis, Evelyn, Mary Kathryn, James, Dorothy, and Brooks. These roles filled her heart with immeasurable love and happiness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Overman and Dova Best Mackey; her beloved husband, John Blaylock, who passed away in 2005; a daughter, Lesa Adair Blaylock, who passed in 1977; and her siblings, sisters, Margaret Boltz, Hazel Frady, Reva Phillips, and Julieen Brown; brothers, Glenn Overman and Thurmond Overman. Her legacy continues through her beloved family, whose lives she enriched with her love and guidance.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September, 13, 2024, at Wells Funeral Home of Canton with Reverend Jonathan Blaylock and Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating.
