Lorena Estes

Canton- Lorena Sloan Mauney Estes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at her residence. She was a native of Rutherford College, NC but had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Wiley and Kathryn Mauney and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Rudolph Mauney and one sister, Estelle Moose. She was a very active member of Central United Methodist Church of Canton. Mrs. Estes loved spending time with her family, reading, working crossword puzzles and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph "Joe" Collins Estes; two sons, Tommy Pope and his wife Kathy of Canton and Joe C. Estes, Jr. of Charlotte; one sister, Tolie Kidd of Charlotte; two brothers, Ted Mauney of Todd, NC and C.G. Mauney of Glen Alpine, NC; 4 grandchildren, Tony Pope and his wife Amanda, Shane Pope and his wife Roxanne, Tim Pope and his wife Amber and Matthew Farmer; 3 great-grandchildren, Michael Pope, Tamara Pope and Chayse Pope. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Canton Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Christy and Reverend Matthew Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church. Pallbearers will be Tony, Shane and Tim Pope, Matthew Farmer, Dave Masters and Dan Kelley.
