Louie Reece

March 23, 1930 — January 24, 2007

Bethel-Louie Edward Reece, age 76, of 98 Inman Branch Road, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Memorial Mission Hospital surrounded by his family. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Mollie Chambers Reece. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Frankie Woody Ledbetter, and two brothers, Earl and Jerry Reece. He was a retired Champion International employee and cattle farmer. Louie loved the outdoors and was passionate about bear hunting. He enjoyed helping others with the health and care of animals and was considered the community veterinarian. He was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church. He is survived by one daughter, Gail R. Guy and her husband, Randy; one son, Wade Reece and his wife, Vickie; a special sister, Sarah Mease, and her husband, Guy; one brother, Roy Reece and his wife, Maxine, all of Bethel; four grandchildren, Penny and her husband, Reverend Ryan Kilby, April Long and her husband, Tommy, Zac Guy and his wife, Haley, and Aggie Guy; one step granddaughter, Christie Whitener; seven great grandchildren, Kelsi, Eli, and Zeke Long, Paxton, Spencer, and Chandler Kilby, and Tucker Guy; and one step great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Sellars. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Riverside Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Foster, Reverend Mike Leslie, Reverend Roy Kilby, and Reverend Jesse Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church and at other times, at the home of his daughter, Gail Guy, 96 Rocky Branch Road, Canton. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Medford, Keith Reece, Richard Rogers, Joe Lokerson, Mark Hollingsworth, and Dalton Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Best, Thad Medford, Ted Darrell Inman, Bill Putman, Terry Morgan, Josh Mease, Larry Phillips, and Richard Farmer. Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 or the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
