Waynesville, Louise Parton Messer, 95, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Merritt and Hattie Tucker Parton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Messer, who died in 1991; sisters, Edith Brown, Blanche Caldwell, Mary Bradley and Betty King; and brothers, Jim, Troy, Tucker, Merritt, Jr., Fred and Frank Parton. Louise graduated from Waynesville Township High School and was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and listening to Christian music.
Louise is survived by a son, Terry Messer, and his wife, Melody; sister, Margaret James (Phil); three grandchildren, Laura Winters (Alan), Lindsey Shelton (Brad) and Joshua Messer (Jessica); and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 in memory of Louise Messer.
The care of Mrs. Messer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
