Waynesville-Louise Palmer Ross, beloved mother and friend, died on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the age of 79. A native of Haywood County and a descendant of Cataloochee families, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey Robert and Minnie Leah Parton Palmer. She graduated from Waynesville Township High School and worked for C.E. Ray's Department Store before going to work for First National Bank of Waynesville in 1958. She remained with the bank, which became First Union, working her way up from bookkeeper, teller and head teller to commercial loan officer, until her retirement in 1987. She continued a friendship with the "bankers' lunch group" until her death. Mrs. Ross also served as a member of the board of directors of Farm Bureau for the past 12 years. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, bird watching, and growing flowers. She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, growing up in the Maple Grove fellowship, then attending Francis Cove United Methodist Church after her marriage. She was a dedicated member of Crabtree United Methodist Church for the 32 years she lived in that community. She served on the administrative council and as treasurer and/or financial secretary for the past 12 years and sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Waywin Ross, who died in 1995, and by a brother, Thomas Alvin Palmer and his wife, Georgia Mae. She is survived by two sons and their families, Steven Wayne and Kathy Ross and Jerry Lynn and Joan Ross, all of the Crabtree community; a sister, Elsie Palmer Hyatt and her husband, Roger, of Robbinsville; four grandsons who were the joys of her life: Rusty, Justin, Daniel and Luke Ross; and three nieces and two nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Crabtree United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kathy McAbee and the Reverend Dr. W.T. Medlin, Jr. officiating. Her beloved choir will provide the music. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Rusty Ross, Doug Hyatt, Tom Harvey, Max Palmer, Don Smart, Anthony Cooper, Ralph Ross, Mark Galvin, Justin and Daniel Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crabtree United Methodist Church Music and Ministries, 5405 Crabtree Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
