Louise Russell

Waynesville, Frances Louise Hunter Russell, age 81, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Brian Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Lee and Frances Evans Hunter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles "Safford" Russell, who died in 2011; a son, Calvin Ray Russell; a sister, Lois Owen; and three brothers, Doc, Junior and George Hunter. Louise was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for 25 years outside the home to support her family and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. Louise is survived by a daughter, Elva Woody and her husband, Claude; a son, Albert Russell and long-time companion, Terry Caldwell; and a sister, Ruth Hunter Finger, all of Waynesville. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Hunter, of Asheville; two grandchildren, Jennifer Woody Duffield (Arnold) and Amy Rathbone; and six great-grandchildren, Levi and Autumn Duffield, Savanna Leighann Brown, Jakob and Jordan Rathbone, and Ray Bryant. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 25, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam, Reverend Ronald Greene and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Levi Duffield, Jakob Rathbone, Mike Payne, Alan Hunter, Tommy and Terry Finger, Charlie Teague and Ray Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Wilson Messer and Arnold Duffield. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Albert Russell. A special "Thank you" is extended to the staff of the Brian Center for their loving care and also to David and Julie Ferguson, Ann Smith and Wilma Green.
