Love Coman, Jr.

Canton- Love Armstrong "L.A." Coman, Jr. - age 80 died Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. L.A. was born December 27, 1925 and was the only son of the late Love Armstrong Coman, Sr. and Cecil B. Coman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Love Armstrong "Chip" Coman, III. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. He attended Canton High School, Brevard College and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. L.A. served as a sergeant in the United States Air Corp stationed in Italy in World War II. He was the owner of Haywood Realty and Insurance Company in Canton. His civic contributions were acknowledged by being included in the 1972 edition of Personalities of the South. He was also a recipient of the Canton-Bethel Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1971. L.A. was one of the first recipients of the Eagle Scout Award in Haywood County and was a member of the Canton Lions Club with 30 years of perfect attendance. L.A. was also a member of Central United Methodist Church of Canton and an affiliate member of Cruso United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Brown Coman; one son, Matt Coman and his wife Lisa of Canton; one granddaughter, Bailey Marie Coman of Canton and a Godchild, Marcia Coman Scott. A Celebration of L.A.'s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Christy and Reverend Brad Holliman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Chip's Chapel Maintenance Fund, c/o Boy Scouts of America, Camp Daniel Boone Council, 333 W.
