LOWELL H. EDWARDS
Clyde-Lowell Howard Edwards, age 67, 246 Oak Park Drive went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 07, 2003.
He was a life-long resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Glen Henry Edwards and Effie Viola Howell Edwards. He was a Marine Corp veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former deputy with the Haywood County Sheriff's Department and was a former employee of Sears Roebuck and Co. in Waynesville. The last fifteen years of his working career, he served as a salesman and general manager of Ken Wilson Ford in Canton. He was a devout Christian man who served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and choir director of Barberville Baptist Church for most of his adult life. He continued his service at Ninevah Baptist Church until his departure from this earth. He loved the Lord and was faithful in his service. His friends and family remember him as a kind, loving, and charitable man with a great sense of humor, a big heart, and infinite patience. He was an avid sports fan and the ''Atlanta Braves'' were like a second family to him.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sara Lou Morgan Edwards; three daughters, Sharon Marie Messer, and her husband, Carl, of Clyde, NC, Lowell Lynn Kinmon, and her husband, Richard, and Anna Michael Floyd, and her husband, Michael, both of Shelby, NC; one sister, Doris Edwards Parton, of Waynesville, NC; a brother, Joseph Dixon Edwards, of Rogersville, TN; two grandsons, Christopher Dale Cogdill, and Daniel Yates Floyd; five granddaughters, Cassandra Marie Messer, Sara Michelle Messer, Anna Noel Floyd, and Morgan Lynn and Megan Elizabeth Kinmon.
A celebration of Lowell's life and his arrival in God's Kingdom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael J. Leslie, Reverend G. W. Jameson, and Harold Dean Messer officiating. Entombment will be at the Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the funeral home, and at other times will be at the residence. Pallbearers will be Harold Ledbetter, Mark Brown, Ralph Arrington, Gary McAbee, Jim Gaddis, Gerald McMahan, and Kevin Messer. Honorary pallbearers will be The Faith Builders Sunday School Class and deacons of Ninevah Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorials be made in Lowell's honor to the Carolina ALS Center, P.O. Box 32861, Charlotte, NC 28232-2861.
