Waynesville, Richard Clinton Emrich, Sr., age 92, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. Born on June 29, 1920 in Fairfield, Nebraska, he was the son of Anson and Helen Emrich. Immediately following his graduation from the University of Nebraska, he was commissioned as an officer to serve during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and ultimately earned the rank of Lt. Col. in his service in the United States Air Force. He completed his military career in the 113th Tactical Fighter Wing of the DC Air National Guard. Subsequently, Richard was employed by the Department of The Navy and the Federal Aviation Administration as an accountant. Richard met his wife Margaret (pre-deceased) February 2010), in Lincoln Nebraska. They were married on August 1st, 1943. Subsequently, they moved to Northern Virginia and resided there until 2005. They enjoyed nearly 67 years of loving marriage together. Upon retirement in 1979, he found pleasure in service as President of the Civitan Club of Arlington Virginia. Ultimately, they moved to Lake Junaluska to be near their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They became active members of Long's Chapel UMC in Waynesville, NC. after their transfer of membership of over 50 years at Mount Olivet UMC in Arlington, Virginia. Richard is survived by: his daughter, Martha Emrich-Stiles and her husband the Reverend Daniel P. Stiles; his son, Richard C. Emrich, Jr.; his three grandchildren: Lisa K. and her husband Matthew Tygielski; Heather Michelle Jollay and her husband Dr. Martin Senicki; Marissa G. and her husband Sgt. Thomas Fox; three great grandchildren; Noah Z. and Michael R. Tygelski; Phoebe N. Jollay-Castelblanco; three step grandchildren: Dana L. Sutton; Melissa L. Clark, Benjamin D. Stiles; two step great grandchildren; Andrew and Torri Senicki and a sister-in-law, Dorothy W. Avis and her son, Hunter Avis. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. Charles "Chuck" Wilson, II, The Reverend Daniel P. Stiles and The Reverend Tim McConnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myers, Virginia. Flowers are appreciated.
