Lucien Miner

Maggie Valley, Lucien Foye Miner, age 83, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Homestead, the MedWest-Hospice Center in Waynesville. Lucien was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 28, 1930. He graduated from Sea Breeze High School in Daytona Beach and was a very active member of the Daytona Beach Life Guard Corps. As a young boy, he was an acolyte at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Daytona. He spent most of his years in Florida where he had a marina and charter boat business in Port Salerno, Florida. Lucien was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Port Salerno. He spent his later years as an aerial photographer, publishing books on anchorages and ports of call in Abaco, Bahamas and the eastern and western shores of the Chesapeake Bay, in partnership with Thomas Henschel. He also had a love for the mountains of North Carolina and after spending seven summers in North Carolina Maggie Valley, became his permanent home in 2007. Lucien was an active member of Grace Church in the Mountains (Episcopal) in Waynesville. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Kroesen-Miner, brother, John Vanhorne Miner, Jr. (Cecil) of Atlanta, GA, two daughters, Deborah Reynolds (Lee) of Maggie Valley and Johanna Vanhorne Miner of Mandeville, LA, granddaughters, Amina Cain (Amar Ravva) of Los Angeles, CA, Rachel Ringen of Covington, LA, and Elizabeth Strain (Jon) of Abita Springs, LA, grandsons, Jonathan Kaslow of New York, and Rashi Kaslow of Los Angeles, CA, two great-grandchildren, and two stepsons, Todd W. Kroesen (Joanne) of Raleigh, NC, and Timothy J. Oglesby (Virginia) of Knoxville, TN. Lucien was preceded in death by his parents, John Vanhorne Miner, and Arline Crenshaw Miner, daughter Elizabeth Allison Miner, and a son, John Lucien Miner. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Grace Church in the Mountains with The Reverend Arlene Lukas officiating. A reception will follow the service in Thatcher Hall. A scattering of cremains will take place in the sea off Stuart, Florida.
