Lucile F. Noland DuBois Fines Creek-Lucile Ferguson Noland DuBois, age 100, passed away Thursday morning December 9th at Hawthorne Inn in Hilton Head Island, S. C., where she had resided for the past seven years. She was the daughter of the late Zebulon and Betty Redmond Ferguson and was also preceded in death by two children, Dorothy Noland and James Hardy Noland and five brothers, Hugh, Steve, Mark, Jim and Foster Ferguson, and two sisters, Helen and Viola Ferguson. Lucile was raised at Fines Creek where she taught at Fines Creek School, married Reeves Noland in 1923 and raised her three children. She was a homemaker and a member of the Haywood United Daughters of the Confederacy. She attended the Lower Fines Creek Methodist Church where she was the oldest member. From 1948 until 1953, she and Reeves lived in Ratcliffe Cove where they were active in the Ratcliffe Cove Methodist Church. They resided in Lake Junaluska for the years between 1952 and 1958. The couple then lived at 333 Church Street from 1959 until 1966, while maintaining a second residence at the old home place in Fines Creek. They attended the Waynesville First United Methodist Church during this period. Her husband, D. Reeves Noland, passed away in 1966 after forty-three years of marriage. Seven years after the death of Reeves, Lucile began a new chapter in her life by marrying Clayton DuBois. They lived in Bradenton, Florida until his death in 1995. She is survived by her three children, Betty Edith Noland Brooks and her husband Jack of Huntsville, AL, Peggy Ann Noland Koch and her husband Robert of Hilton Head Island, SC and David Reeves Noland, Jr. and his wife Sue Carolyn of Fines Creek, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21st at Lower Fines Creek United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. W. T. Medlin and Reverends Ned Martin and Paul Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends following the services at the home of David Noland at 2471 Fines Creek Road in Clyde, NC.
