Lucille Czarnecki

May 24, 1920 — September 28, 2017

Clyde, Lucille Czarnecki, age 97, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her residence.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Seth Crawford and Grace Rogers Wood. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Edward Czarnecki who died in 2012; son, Steven Edward Czarnecki, II; four sisters; brothers, Tom and Gerald Wood. Lucille served in the United States Army as a librarian during World War II. As fate would have it, she met the love of her life, Mr. Steve Czarnecki, as he was recovering from injuries sustained in the war. During his recovery, Steve enjoyed spending time in the library, desperately hoping to see his "deary", Lucille. In time, he mustered the courage to ask Lucille on a date, and the rest is history. Following their courtship, Lucille and Steve married on VJ Day and for 66 beautiful years they were never apart. Lucille was a vivacious and loving spirit. Her sweet heart and loving nature touched the lives of so many, and she will be dearly missed.

Lucille is survived by three daughters, Susan Cogdill, and her husband, Charles, of Waynesville, Mary Bryan, and her husband, Gary, of Milton, Florida and Margaret Williams, of Clyde; two sons, Tony Czarnecki, and his companion, Eileen Lakin, of Pleasant Grove, California and Lee Czarnecki, of Clyde; three grandsons, Eric, Chad and Josh Czarnecki; and a great-grandson, Austin Czarnecki.

A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Becket Soul and Father Larry LoMonaco officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery with Military Rites. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.

The family thanks the loving caregivers; Sandra Nalley, Pat Brooks, Vanessa Partin and Autumn Willett who made "Miss Lucille's" life so pleasant.
