Lucille Fowler Rathbone, age 93, of Clyde, went home to be with her Lord on December 1, 2008. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse M. and Zalia Rogers Fowler. She was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Valrea and James Chambers; a brother and his wife, Rufus and Eva Campbell Fowler. Lucille worked at American Enka Corporation, Tuscola High School, and retired from Haywood Community College. She was a life-long member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church and a beloved Sunday School teacher. In addition to her husband, Mark G. Rathbone, she is survived by two daughters, Jackie S. Alexander and Beverly A. Swanson, all of Clyde; a son-in-law, Bruce E. Swanson; five sisters and their husbands, Laura Jean Caldwell Jones, Ruth Hawkins, Doris and John T. Hightower, all of Clyde, Mabel Alello, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Joyce and Charles Henderson of Morganton, NC. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend James Armstrong and Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers will be Harold Chambers, Bill Caldwell, Dan Caldwell, Colby Caldwell, Stephen Alello, Michael Todd Smith, Eddie Judy, Heath Early, Zachery Carroll, Terry Henderson, Daryl Hightower, and Michael Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1547, Clyde, NC 28721.
