Waynesville, Lucille Carolyn Adams Slye, age 89, of Givens Estate, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Givens Health Center. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, she was a former resident of Charlotte and Emerald Isle, North Carolina and had resided in Asheville for the past year. She was the daughter of the late Duane and Audrey Tanner Adams and was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Milton Slye, who died in 2008; a son, Gregory Milton Slye; and a brother, Duane Adams, Jr. She formerly worked for Belk Brothers and Montaldos in Charlotte as a commercial artist. Lucille loved to garden and paint and also enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a member of Swansboro United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Reverend Susan Slye Giles and her husband, Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. of Waynesville; two sons, Stephen Wayne Slye of Emerald Isle, North Carolina and Daniel R. Slye and his wife, Lynn, of Charleston, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Kari Giles, Zachary Giles and his wife, Rhiannon and Sarah, Matthew, and Joseph Slye; and one great granddaughter, Lorelei Giles. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. and Reverend E. Wannamaker Hardin, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and at other times, 120 Crum Drive, Lake Junaluska.
