Asheville-Lucy Fisher Rogers, age 88, of 71 Garden Circle, died Wednesday at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Buncombe County for more than 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Elmore Way Fisher and Minnie Kirkpatrick Fisher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Verlin S. Rogers, who died in 1979 and two brothers, Wilson Fisher and Manford Fisher. She was a retired schoolteacher and had taught in the Haywood and Buncombe County School Systems. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1949. She is survived by two daughters, Verna Coggins, and her husband, Phillip, of Lawrenceville, GA and Norma Scholtz and her husband, Larry, of Asheville; two sisters, Hilda Mashburn of Fayetteville, NC and Thomasine Bennett of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, David S. Coggins of Asheville, Timothy L. Coggins and his wife, DeLane, of Woodstock, GA, Cindy Dixon and her husband, Jimmy, of Winder, GA, Mike Scholtz and his wife, Tricia, of Hendersonville, and Mark Scholtz and his wife, Tara, of Asheville; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Reverend Dwight Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
