Lula Burnette

Lula Lusk Burnette, age 99, moved to heaven from her home in Candler on August 3, 2013. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Flossie Giles Lusk. "Big Mamaw" was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Burnette, an infant son, James Putnam; four daughters, Geneva Tabor, Tilda Bryson, Rose Grant, Susie Lovingood; a son, Howard Putnam; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a great-great-grandchild; five sisters, Oralee, Savannah, Euphia, Helen, and Eva; and three brothers, Reeves, Marion, and John Luther. Lula will be remembered for her love for her family and the Lord. She especially loved all flowers and enjoyed collecting hummingbirds and angels. Also, Lula was known for being a wonderful cook. She is survived by a daughter, Virgie Head of Canton; two sons, Tommy Putnam and his wife, Zora, of Asheville and Robert Putnam and his wife, Joyce, of Clyde; a daughter-in-law, Ann Putnam of Canton; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
