Lula Sanford

Canton - Lula Mae Bowers Sanford, age 79, of Dutch Cove Road, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at her residence.

She was a native of Jackson County and had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Fannie Huffman Burnette Bowers. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Sanford who died in 1997 and one daughter, JoAnn Fortner and one grandson, Michael Rhinehart. She was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church and was a weaver, quilter and a homemaker.

She is survived by five sons, Kenneth Sanford and his wife Alba Jo of Canton, Donald Sanford of Jefferson City, TN, Roger Sanford, Johnny Sanford and his wife Rita and Terry Sanford and his wife Lynn, all of Spartanburg, SC, a half-brother, Julius Huffman of Canton, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Morning Star United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Doug Love will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kenneth & Alba Jo Sanford, 5134 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
