Lula Smathers

Waynesville, Lula Mae Cagle Smathers, age 78, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at The Brian Center of Waynesville. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Caldwell Cagle. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Smathers; a daughter, Patricia Gosnell, a son, Charles Edward Smathers and a sister, Josephine Caldwell. Mae especially loved her children and enjoyed babysitting and spending quality time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Mack, and her husband, Randy, of Sylva and Linda Mack, of Canton; four grandchildren, ChrisMack, Joseph Gosnell, Lacey Clark and Tyler Mack and three great grandchildren, Mckenzie Mack, Eathan Clark and Nala Shea Meadows. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Joseph and Amanda Gosnell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Activities Fund at the Brian Center, 516 Wall Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
