Luther Phillip

Newton, Phillip Neal Luther, age 58, went to be with the Lord, on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Newton, NC for the past 30 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Burke Luther. He was a foreman employed by Catawba Sox for the past seven years. He was a US Army Infantry Division veteran of the Vietnam War and was member of the American Legion Post 240, Maiden, NC. Phillip was a collector of comic books, loved reading and music and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by one son, Ricky Wyatt of Maiden, NC; one daughter, Donna Mays, and her husband, Wayne, of Conover, NC; and two sisters, Phyllis Wheatley and her husband, Mike, of Sylva and Kathy Barnes and her husband, Danny, of Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Derwin Greeson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Mays, Jonathan Shook, Ricky Wyatt, Michael Wheatley, Christopher Barnes, and Tyler Nicholson. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
