Luther Shuler

September 22, 1930 — April 26, 2008

Waynesville, Luther Leeander Shuler, age 77, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Harris Regional Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Ernest Monroe and Georgia Norman Shuler. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Sue Rector, who died June 18, 2004; two sisters, Josephine Losso and Wilma Shuler; two brothers, Wilford and Bobby Shuler. Luther was employed by Champion International as a machine operator for 30 years and was a member of Barberville Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his yard and spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by a son, Chris Shuler and his wife, Angie, of Maggie Valley; two sisters, Glenda Glavich of Waynesville and Brenda DeBruhl of Asheville, NC; a brother, Billy Shuler of Lumberton, NC; two grandsons, Jared and Joshua Shuler; a special niece, Glenda Rathbone and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend Ned Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Highway. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to Barberville Baptist Church, 1441 Russ Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.
