Waynesville, Lyda Jane Hall Barrera, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, she lived most of her life in Western North Carolina and resided approximately ten years in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late James Edward and Margie Mae Hooper Hall and was also preceded in death by a brother, James E. Hall, Jr. and one sister, Judith Ann Curtis. Lyda was a dedicated nurse and home healthcare worker for 37 years throughout various hospitals in Western North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee. She loved all types of music and enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two sons, Karl H. Wingruber, II of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Joseph E. Wingruber of Waynesville; one daughter, Julie N. Keffer and her husband, Jerry Keffer, Jr. of Sylva; six grandchildren, Jacob G. Darovitz-Wingruber, Christopher Jarrod Miller and his wife, Meagan, Michael D. Miller, Jerry Keffer, III, and Tylor and Katie Keffer; one great grandson, Austin J. Miller; and four nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Downs officiating. Inurnment will be at Plott-Saunook Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
