Lydia Rogers

Canton-Lydia Samantha Shipman Rogers, age 90, formerly of the Bethel community went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Brian Center of Waynesville. She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Mark and Julia Pressley Shipman. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Robert M. Franklin, 2nd husband, Mac Mashburn, and her 3rd husband Garland Rogers, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She retired from Champion International in 1961 with 19 years of service. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and was a member of the Canton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one daughter, Emily Holder of Clyde, one son Earl B. Franklin and his wife Dot of Candler, two step-daughters, Wilma Thomas and Opal Edwards both of Canton, one sister Veldia Biddix of Waynesville, one brother Arthur Shipman of Canton, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Jerry Ensley and Reverend G. W. Jameson will officiate. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road in Canton. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, Home Health Bldg, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
