Lyle Coffey

Waynesville, Lyle Welch Coffey, age 90, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at his residence. Lyle was born in Swain County, son of the late Rufus Gamewell and Minnie Welch Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Roby Coffey, Mabel A. Coffey, Helene Coffey, Ruth Coffey Rogers, J.C. Coffey and R.G. Coffey, Jr. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during World War II. Lyle graduated from Mars Hill and Carson-Newman Colleges and then earned his Master's degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Lyle loved his family, especially his children, and enjoyed working and helping others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Lyle is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Kinsland Coffey; a daughter, Kristin Coffey West and her husband, Alan, of Waynesville; a son, John Lyle Coffey and his wife, Bronwen, also of Waynesville; and three grandchildren, Kinslyn Coffey and Ashley and Aaron West. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Charlie Creasman officiating.
