Waynesville-M. Wade Presnell, age 85, of Bobcat Road, in the White Oak Community, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at his residence. A native of Cocke County, Tennessee, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Joe and Mary Davis Presnell. He was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Presnell, who died in 2002; four sisters; and six brothers. He retired in 1983 after 30 years service from the NC Department of Transportation, Bridge Maintenance Department. He attended White Oak Baptist Church and served as a military policeman in the US Army during World War II. He received the American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Annie Payne Prenell; two daughters, Cecil Pauline Fish and her husband, Ronald, of Waynesville and Annette Caroline Chambers and her husband, Don, of the Crabtree community; a daughter-in-law, Grovene Presnell, of Iron Duff; a sister, Alverta Greene of Waynesville; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, July 8, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Gary Putnam and Reverend Max Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Hunter, Hugh and Kelly Williams, James Payne, Joe Emery, and Ray McElroy. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 47 and VFW Post 5202. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC or the Fines Creek First Responders, 244 Fines Creek Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
