Mabel Bryson

Waynesville-Mabel Ann McCracken Bryson, age 78, of 52 Central Avenue, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at her residence.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Myrtle Medford McCracken. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, David, William, Carroll, and Ernest McCracken. She graduated from Western Carolina University and taught school for the Rutherford County School System. She was a former member of Rutherfordton First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a current member of Waynesville First United Methodist Church and a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thaddeus Carroll Bryson; a daughter, Anna Sauer and her husband, Tim, of Longmont, Colorado; a son, Gene Carroll Bryson, of Bermuda Run, NC; three sisters, Peggy Briggs and her husband, Bruce, of Waynesville, Mary Frances Gray and her husband, Gene, of Charlotte, NC, and Evelyn Sutton of Lake Junaluska; a brother, Albert J. McCracken, Jr. and his wife, Polly of Granite Quarry, NC; four grandchildren, Amy Helmick, Andy Triplett, and Meredith and Thad Bryson; and one great grandson, Nathan Hemlick.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells, Reverend John Christy, and Reverend David Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Asbury Sunday School Class.
