Mabel C. "Nanny" Harris, age 88, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late George Harrison Cogburn, Sr. and Bessie Pruitt Cogburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harris, who died in 1979; two sons, William Larry Harris and Charles Reeves Harris; four brothers; and a sister. She graduated from Clyde High School and was member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church. Mabel loved her family very much and was called "Nanny" by many. She is survived by two sons, Joe Robert Harris and Terry Eugene Harris both of Canton, a daughter, Betty H. Rogers of Waynesville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton and Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Terry E. Harris. Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Doug, Don, Larry, Hillary, Jack, and Tommy Cogburn and Mike and Pat Smathers.
