Mabel Mcelroy

Waynesville, Mabel Stevenson McElroy, age 71, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Doug and Fannie Henson Stevenson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Joe McElroy, who died in 2006, a son-in-law, Michael Dixon; two brothers; and a sister. She was employed by Lake Junaluska Assembly, Haywood Community College, and America Enka. She was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church. Mabel loved gardening, socializing with her friends, cooking, and traveling when she was able. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Dixon and Lisa James and her husband, Roger, all of Waynesville; a step-son, James Justice of Clyde; two brothers, Floyd Stevenson and his wife, Geneva and Amos Stevenson and his wife, Ruth, all of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Mike, Heidi, and Tori Dixon; and Jonathan and Joey Justice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Mabel's birthday, at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Mabel's residence.
