Mabel Webb

Mabel Pace Webb, age 98, born on December 14, 1912, went home peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Haywood Regional Medical Center surrounded by her large and loving family following a brief illness. She was born in Copperhill, TN and had resided in Canton for the past 90 years. She was the daughter of the late Early Alexander and Birdie Mae Neal Pace. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Amos Webb who died in 1987; a daughter, Judy Grubb; a grandson, Derek Drake; two sisters; and six brothers. Mrs. Webb was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her many children and grandchildren and whose Sunday afternoon meals were legendary. She was a kind and loving soul who never met a stranger. She was of the Baptist faith and was the most senior member of West Canton Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Carroll F. Webb and his wife, Linda, of Hendersonville; five daughters, Juanita Watson of Brevard, Loretta Warwick of Canton, Joyce Birchfield of Brevard, Drami Stepp and her husband, James, of Cruso; and Sharon Drake Reece and her husband, James Paul, of Brevard; a sister, Geraldine Williams; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with her granddaughter, the Reverend Shelly Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. The family of Mrs. Webb would like to extend a special gratitude to the staff of 5 East, especially nurse Sam of Haywood Regional Medical Center, as well as the Hospice team.
