Haywood County, Mable Clay Murray passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at her home.
She was a native of Wilmington, NC. And the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Pierce Clay and preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dr. Thomas Watson Murray, Jr., who died in 2014, and son Dean Murray.
Mable graduated from Williston High School, and Fayetteville State University with a bachelor’s degree. She had passion for literacy and was a dedicated teacher with the Philadelphia Public School System for over 30 years.
Mable was of the Baptist Faith and a literary tutor, 4-H regional leader, leader in the N.C. home school association, enjoyed gardening, physical fitness, and ballroom dancing with her husband.
Mable is survived by her two sons, Thomas Rodney Murray (Gina) and Dr. Darrell Lee Murray (Monica), three sisters (Dorothy Clay, Shirley Abrams, and Ruth Clay), two brothers (William Clay and James Clay), several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous children of her heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to National 4-H Council Contributions, PO Box 69364, Baltimore, MD 21264-9364.
The care of Mrs. Murray has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home Waynesville
