Waynesville-Madeline A. Yerkes, age 83, of Shelton Street, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at her residence. A native of New York, New York, she was a former resident of Palm Harbor, Florida and had resided in Haywood County for the past year. She was the daughter of the late Kaspar and Theresa Barth Doppler. She was a former department secretary at Harborfield High School, Greenlawn, New York and was a columnist for the Long Islander. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin. In retirement, Madeline was a dedicated volunteer. She was an officer of the Imperial Cove Community Association, Ostomy Support Group, Sutton Place Condominium Association, and the Clearwater Opera Guild. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Religious Community Services. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening and sewing. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, F. Harlan Yerkes; four daughters, Cheryl Mulloy-Villemagne and her husband, Dick Villemagne, of Waynesville, Sabra Hampton and her husband, Earl, and Rita Yerkes, both of Illinois, and Lisa Dragos and her husband, Gheta, of Romania; two sons, Ken Malmstrom and his wife, Mary, of Waynesville and Harley Yerkes of Ohio; a sister, Eva Messeberg, of Palm Harbor, Florida; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004 at the Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center with Reverend Kent Loudermilk officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Haven of RCS, P.O. Box 10594, Clearwater, FL 33757.
