Madelyn Gudger

Candler – Madelyn Peeler Gudger, age 96, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Shytle Peeler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Eugene Debs Gudger as wells as brothers, Hugh and Van Buren Peeler, and sister, Margaret Gudger. Madelyn was born in Cleveland County and came to Candler at an early age. She graduated from Candler High School. Madelyn attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Candler where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Madelyn was very well known for her love of flowers and enjoyed spending time in her greenhouse as well as with family and friends. She is survived by three brothers, William Z. Peeler of Byron, Georgia, John G. Peeler of Springboro, Ohio, and Ronald E. "Gene" Peeler of Candler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jay Bissett officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
