Mae Green

June 5, 1934 — October 1, 2015

Waynesville, Mae Mashburn Green, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at the Brian Center. A Swain County native, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Louella Franks Mashburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, David R. Green; two infant sisters; a sister, Mary Alice Lee; and one brother, Jesse Mashburn. Mae was a kind, compassionate woman who loved and adored her family. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially crocheting and painting. One other thing that brought her joy was her love of music, playing the piano and singing. Mae will be remembered for being a Godly woman who loved her Lord. Mae is survived by four daughters, Diana Gregory of Bryson City, Vickey Burchfield (Gary) and Marcia Elliott (Johnny), of Canton and Rose Knight (Roger) of Waynesville; a son, Steve Green (Wanda) of New Bern; four sisters, Mandalline Smith of Robbinsville, Joann and Roxie Burnette of Canton and Maxine Hill of Waynesville; one brother, Thomas Mashburn, of Waynesville; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Pullin officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
