Mae Kelley

Canton - Lillie Mae Smathers Kelley, age 95, formerly of 28 Puddin Lane went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 01, 2003.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late George Hascue and Ollie Jane Rhodarmer Smathers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Kelley who died February 27, 1969.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mae was also affectionately known as "Smokey" or "Grumpy". She was a faithful member of Morning Star United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women, a member of the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class and a member of Sonoma Chapter #254 Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Martha Jean and Robert Earl Devlin and Sue and Bobby Jackson all of Canton as well as four grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverends Doug Love, Wendell Brittain and Larry Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bobby Jackson, Matthew Devlin, Charles Jackson, Keith Smathers, Leslie Smathers, Zene Wells, Brent Smathers and Levi Holcombe. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Sonoma Chapter 254 Order of Easter Star. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Martha Jean Devlin at 66 Puddin Lane.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
