Mae Ward

Mae Burr Price Ward, age 81, of 14 Big Barn Drive, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Rebecca Jane Price and stepfather, James Price. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Mary Messer who died at birth; two sisters, Kate Eckenrod and Nancy Fish; and a brother, Ernest Messer. Mae worked the farm with her husband and worked as a cook in various restaurants until she retired at age 62. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vivian Ward; two daughters, Anna Lee Hall (Freddie) of Canton and Carolyn Shelton (Greg) of Maggie Valley; two sons, Ricky Ward (Carolyn) of Fines Creek and Scotty Ward (Kim) of Maggie Valley; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013 at the home at 14 Big Barn Drive, Maggie Valley with the Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at the family cemetery on Big Barn Drive. The body will be taken to the home at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday and will remain until the service time at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Visitation will be at the home any time prior to the funeral.
